Story
Driftwood • Jane & Finch • North York
WhyG — born Shamaury White — emerged from the Driftwood area of Jane and Finch in North York, Toronto. Raised by his mother, a child youth worker, he grew up in one of Toronto's most notorious neighborhoods and channeled that reality into music.
With elastic vocals laid over menacing beats, WhyG thrives on the power of anonymity — projecting his lifestyle through his craft. Since his 2016 debut “Coolin,” he's built a catalog of 200+ tracks, 8 projects, and 22 million YouTube views. His breakout came with “Gamble” ft. Pressa (produced by WondaGurl), followed by the debut album “Mr Vanishyah” featuring the Houdini collab “Auntie.”
The “35” in his name pays homage to Kevin Durant's jersey number — and to 35 Jane, the block that shaped him. As Big Boss El Neato, he continues to represent Driftwood with an ever-growing roster of collaborators and an unrelenting output.
